रूपम् महत्ते बहु वक्त्र नेत्रम्
महाबाहो बहुबाहूरु पादम् ।
बहूदरम् बहु दम्ष्ट्रा करालम्
दृष्ट्वा लोकाः प्रव्यथिताः तथोहम् ॥ २३ ॥
rUpam mahatte bahu vaktra netram
mahAbAho bahubAhUru pAdam |
bahUdaram bahu damSTrA karAlam
dRSTvA lokAH pravyathitAH tathoham || 23 ||
महाबाहो [mahAbAho] Lord with powerful arms, दृष्ट्वा [dRSTvA] seeing महत् ते रूपम् [mahat te rUpam] this huge form of Yours, बहु वक्त्र नेत्रम् [bahu vaktra netram] with many faces and eyes, बहुबाहु [bahubAhu] many arms, उरु पादम् [uru pAdam] thighs and feet, बहूदरम् [bahUdaram] with many torsos, बहु दम्ष्ट्राकरालम् [bahu damSTrAkarAlam] many canine teeth, लोकाः प्रव्यथिताः [lokAH pravyathitAH] people are scared. अहम् च [aham ca] so am I.
At times we experience the universe as being terrible, due to the influence of past deeds.
Looking at Your form, with many canines and this terrifying appearance, all these people are extremely scared - whether they are favorable, unfavorable or indifferent. Along with them, I’m scared too.
