यत् तु कामेप्सुना कर्म साहंकारेण वा पुनः ।
क्रियते बहुलायासम् तत् राजसम् उदाहृतम् ॥ २४ ॥
yat tu kAmepsunA karma sAhaMkAreNa vA punaH |
kriyate bahulAyAsam tat rAjasam udAhRtam || 24 ||

On the other hand, कर्म
[karma]
work यत् क्रियते
[yat kriyate]
that’s done कामेसुना
[kAmesunA]
with expectation to fulfil desires, वा पुनः
[vA punaH]
or again, स अहंकारेण
[sa ahaMkAreNa]
with the misconception of making things happen, बहुलायासम्
[bahulAyAsam]
performed with great strain - तत्
[tat]
such action उदाहृतम्
[udAhRtam]
is said to be राजसम्
[rAjasam]
in the quality of
rajas
.
Again, an activity is in the quality of rajas when it’s loaded with expectations, driven by desire, with great strain and the misconception of making things happen. It is done with the self-conceit that says - ‘This difficult work is accomplished by me alone’.
