6-24 to 6-25


सङ्कल्प प्रभवान् कामान् त्यक्त्वा सर्वान् अशेषतः ।
मनस्यैव इन्द्रिय ग्रामम् विनियम्य समन्ततः ॥ २४ ॥
शनैः शनैरुपरमेत् बुद्ध्या धृति गृहीतया ।
आत्मसम्स्थम् मनः कृत्वा न किन्चिदपि चिन्तयेत् ॥ २५ ॥


saGkalpa prabhavAn kAmAn tyaktvA sarvAn azeSataH |
manasyaiva indriya grAmam viniyamya samantataH || 24 ||
zanaiH zanairuparamet buddhyA dhRti gRhItayA |
Atmasamstham manaH kRtvA na kincidapi cintayet || 25 ||

त्यक्त्वा [tyaktvA] Giving up सर्वान् कामान् [sarvAn kAmAn] all desires सङ्कल्प प्रभवान् [saGkalpa prabhavAn] that arise out of our intentions अशेषतः [azeSataH] without exceptions, विनियम्य [viniyamya] controlling इन्द्रिय ग्रामम् [indriya grAmam] the group of organs समन्ततः [samantataH] in all ways मनस्यैव [manasyaiva] using the mind itself, आत्मसम्स्थम् मनः कृत्वा [Atmasamstham manaH kRtvA] stationing the mind in the Self शनैः शनैः उपरमेत् [zanaiH zanaiH uparamet] giving up, little by little, things other than the Self, बुद्ध्या [buddhyA] using the knowledge दृति गृहीतया [dRti gRhItayA] grasped by perseverance, न किन्चिदपि चिन्तयेत् [na kincidapi cintayet] do not be anxious about anything.

Desires are of two types. The first type comes out of contact with the material world – warmth, cold and so on. The second type is born out of your wishes – such as the desire for a child or territory.

Only by relying on your true nature, you get the ability to look beyond your wishes. Focus your mind on the fact that there’s no logical connection between those desires and your Self.

Then, give up the limited happiness and sorrow that arise out of unavoidable contact with the material world. Govern the group of organs that form your body, even in the presence of all their stimuli.

Little by little, you will let-go of things other than the Self. You do this using knowledge obtained by perseverance. Station the mind within the Self and don’t be anxious about anything.
